Okonkwo Critiques Tinubu's Defense of INEC's Neutrality

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticized President Bola Tinubu's defense of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that the commission has failed to demonstrate its impartiality. During a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Tinubu dismissed concerns about INEC's neutrality, labeling critics as individuals "afraid of their own shadows." Okonkwo, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, argued that it is troubling for a president to act as INEC's chief spokesperson.

He highlighted unresolved issues from the 2023 general election, including a technical glitch that INEC has not adequately explained. Okonkwo, who is also a spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential bid, further criticized the Tinubu administration's performance in security and governance, advising Tinubu to consider resigning after his first term.

Additionally, Okonkwo commented on a recent Court of Appeal judgment that upheld the ADC's registration, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining democratic competition.
