Okowa Praises Amusan and Enekwechi at Glasgow Games

Chief Tonobok Okowa, the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), commended Tobi Amusan for her performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where she won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles despite competing with a knee injury. Amusan finished the race in 12.60 seconds, placing behind Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who won gold with a time of 12.33 seconds, and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds, who secured silver in 12.41 seconds.

Okowa referred to Amusan as an ambassador for Nigeria, expressing pride in her achievements despite the injury that hindered her from defending her title. Additionally, Okowa celebrated Chukwuebuka Enekwechi for winning Nigeria's first athletics gold medal of the Games with a throw of 21.07 meters in the men’s shot put.

He expressed excitement over the performances and confidence in Nigeria's potential to win more medals in track and field events, attributing the athletes' success to the support from the AFN and the National Sports Commission.
