Okowa Praises Tinubu for Supporting Athletics Team Success

Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, commended President Bola Tinubu for his support of Nigeria's athletics team, which successfully qualified for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The team concluded their campaign in Gaborone, Botswana, securing four qualification slots.

Okowa credited the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the National Sports Commission for their roles in ensuring timely preparations and financial support for the athletes. He specifically thanked President Tinubu for making funds available for the team's travel and preparation, which included a two-week training period in Botswana.

The Nigerian team achieved significant results, including a season-best performance in the mixed 4x400m relay. The women's 4x100m team also qualified, while the men's 4x100m and 4x400m teams narrowly missed qualification.

Okowa emphasized the importance of home-based athletes and secondary school participation in shaping the future of Nigerian athletics.
