Tinubu Celebrates Nigeria's 15th African Wrestling Title

President Bola Tinubu praised Team Nigeria for their outstanding performance at the 2026 African Wrestling Championship held in Alexandria, Egypt, where they achieved a record 15th continental title. In a statement issued on Sunday by his special adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu highlighted that Nigeria's wrestlers demonstrated their dominance by winning 8 gold and 2 silver medals in the women's division, contributing to an overall tally of 9 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals across various categories.

The president noted that this victory reflects the consistency and discipline of the athletes, which is a source of national pride. He paid tribute to individual athletes including Adijat Idri, Esther Asaolu, and Harrison Onovwiomogbhwo for their performances.

Tinubu acknowledged the contributions of other team members and emphasized the importance of a structured approach to athlete development in Nigeria. He commended the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, led by Bashir Adeniyi, for sustaining the country's leadership in the sport and urged the team to maintain discipline for future competitions.
