Edo State Government Awards Scholarships to Marathon Winners

The Edo State Government awarded one-year full academic scholarships to the winners of the inaugural Governor Monday Okpebholo and Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa Mini-Marathon Against Drug Abuse. This event, held over the weekend, was organized by the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with the Edo State Drug Control Committee (ESDCC).

More than 100 students from four secondary schools participated, including Edokpolo Grammar School, Ogbe Secondary School, Oba Akenzua Secondary School, and Oba Ewuare Grammar School. Edokpolo Grammar School students excelled, with Ojie Victor, Osamende Bright, and Chambaivi Miracle finishing in first, second, and third places, respectively.

The Deputy Governor, Denis Idahosa, represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Pius Alile, announced the scholarships, aimed at supporting education and encouraging advocacy against drug abuse. NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofuyeju stated that the initiative was designed to engage students in the anti-drug campaign through sports, with winners becoming War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Student Ambassadors.
