Edo Queens Receive N50m Reward from Edo Governor

Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo announced a reward of N50 million for the Edo Queens following their historic double triumph in the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) and the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League. The announcement took place on Tuesday at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, where the governor received the two trophies from the victorious team.

The WAFU-B final against Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to a penalty shootout in which Edo Queens won 4-1. Governor Okpebholo praised the players for their courage and resilience, particularly highlighting the performance of the goalkeeper during the shootout, which he believed gave the team a psychological edge.

He also commended the head coach, technical crew, and officials for their contributions to the team's success. Additionally, he acknowledged the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) for its live coverage of the final, allowing Nigerians to celebrate the team's achievement.
