Okpekpe International 10km Race to Broadcast Live Worldwide

The Okpekpe International 10km Race, which is the first road race in West Africa to earn a World Athletics label status, is set to be broadcast live worldwide on May 30. Organized since its inaugural event in 2013, the race has grown to become a leading road event in Africa, regularly attracting elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Nigeria.

The course covers a 10km distance along the hill tar road in Okpekpe, Edo State, which is located in Nigeria's Edo North Senatorial District. Daniel Simiu Ebenyo from Kenya holds the men's course record at 28 minutes and 28 seconds, while Carolin Chepkoech Kipkirui, a Kenyan-born Kazakhstani athlete, set the women's record at 32 minutes and 38 seconds.

The 2023 edition will feature a strong field of elite athletes alongside Nigeria's top road runners, with prize money reflecting its gold label status. Dare Esan, the media activities director, announced that coverage will be available on M4STV's website and mobile applications.

The event is expected to boost tourism and investment in Edo State.
