Ebonyi Assembly Disbands Amasiri Development Centre After Okporojo Bloodshed

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has approved a bill seeking to disband and delist the Amasiri Development Centre after the violent incident in Okporojo village within the Edda community. The attack, allegedly by an Amasiri warlord, prompted the government to take action, reducing the number of development centers in the state from 64 to 63.

The legislative process took place during a plenary session at the Assembly complex in Abakaliki. Chief Moses Odunwa, the Speaker of the Assembly, condemned the attack and expressed support for Governor Francis Nwifuru's decision to dissolve the Amasiri DC.

Various members of the House, including Hon. Aloysius Nwodo and Hon.

Goodluck Obinna Mbam, commended the Governor's intervention to restore peace in the affected area. The lawmakers urged the people of Amasiri to cooperate with the government and maintain peace.

The bill is expected to take effect on February 3, 2026.
