Activist Demands Charges or Release of Okuama Detainees

Human rights activist Mr. Frank Tieti has called on the Nigerian military to either file charges against or release individuals detained following the Okuama killings, which occurred two years ago in Delta State.

Tieti acknowledged the serious allegations surrounding the deaths of soldiers but argued that indefinite detention without charges violates constitutional rights. He specifically mentioned Dr.

Arthur Ekpekpo, a professor, and other community leaders who were allegedly arrested. Tieti criticized the military's actions as a threat to democracy and public confidence in state institutions.

He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, and traditional leaders like High Chief Ekpemupolo Tompolo to intervene.

Tieti highlighted the urgent need for justice and due process, stressing that the continued detention of community leaders without trial raises significant moral and constitutional concerns.
