Oyesade Olatoye Vows to Come Back Stronger After Setback

Oyesade Olatoye, a Nigerian thrower, finished eighth in the women's hammer throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow on Tuesday, achieving a best throw of 63.27m. The event was dominated by Canada's Camryn Rogers, who set a new Games record of 74.91m to win gold.

Olatoye expressed disappointment over her performance, stating that although her preparation was excellent, she struggled to find her rhythm during the competition. She noted that wet conditions made it difficult to maintain grip and balance, impacting her throws.

Despite not medaling, the 29-year-old remains proud of her season and views this experience as motivation for future championships. Olatoye plans to take a short break before preparing for the 2027 World Championships and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

She emphasized that knowing a podium finish was within reach strengthens her resolve and expressed gratitude towards her supporters.
