Sade Olatoye Finishes Eighth in Hammer Throw at 2026 Games

Sade Olatoye competed in the women’s hammer throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, where she finished eighth, falling short of a podium finish. Olatoye, an African Championships silver medallist, recorded a best attempt of 63.27m in a final that was dominated by Canada’s Camryn Rogers, who successfully defended her Commonwealth title with a new Games record of 74.91m.

New Zealand’s Lauren Bruce secured the silver medal with a throw of 69.82m, while Australia’s Lara Roberts took home the bronze with a mark of 68.05m. Olatoye had entered the competition with hopes of medaling, having achieved a season's best throw of 70.46m prior to the Games.

She qualified for the final after successfully navigating the qualifying round and was considered one of Nigeria’s leading hopes in the field events following her silver-medal performance at the 2026 African Championships in Accra.
