LAWMA Enhances Olusosun Landfill Access to Tackle Waste

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has undertaken repairs on a major access road at the Olusosun Landfill located in Ojota to enhance waste disposal operations and address the backlog of refuse in Lagos State. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, announced this initiative during an inspection of the repaired Road E and E2 platforms on Tuesday.

The project was executed by ZoomLion Nigeria Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. Gbadegesin clarified that the Olusosun landfill has not been shut down, but operations are being gradually wound down to create additional space for waste disposal.

He emphasized the importance of residents' waste disposal habits and timely payments to Private Sector Participant operators for effective waste management. The state government is investing in various waste management facilities to cater to the growing population.

Gbadegesin urged residents to adopt proper waste disposal practices to help eliminate refuse on the roads. Olugbenga Adebola, the national president of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria, described the road repairs as a significant boost to waste management in the state.
