Team Nigeria's Para-Powerlifters Aim for Medals in Glasgow

Team Nigeria will commence its medal pursuit at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with six para-powerlifters competing at the SEC Armadillo Hall. Folashade Oluwafemiayo, a two-time Paralympic champion, will lead the team in the heavyweight category, where she previously set a world record of 168kg.

She expressed confidence in her training and her role as a role model. In the Women’s Lightweight category, Esther Nworgu and Esther Oyema will compete against England’s Olivia Broome.

In the men’s lightweight category, veteran powerlifter Roland Ezuruike, the Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist, will challenge Bonnie Bunyau Gustin of Malaysia. Ezuruike, who recently turned 50, remains confident in his abilities.

Other Team Nigeria athletes include boxers Ayomide Hassan Foly and Abdulrahnan Abdulwahab, and swimmer Clinton Opute, who will also seek medals in their respective events.
