Eguavoen Named Interim Coach for Super Falcons Olympic Qualifiers

Augustine Eguavoen, the head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, has been named the interim head coach for the Super Falcons as they prepare for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying matches against Comoros in October. The Nigeria Football Federation continues its search for a permanent head coach.

Eguavoen, who has significant international coaching experience, will be supported by Christopher Danjuma, the head coach of Nasarawa Amazons, and Olatunji Baruwa, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer. Ayisat Yusuf, a former Super Falcons defender with 68 international caps, will also serve as an assistant coach.

The Super Falcons will begin their qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with matches scheduled for October 9 and October 13, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo. Nigeria received a bye into this round as one of the top three ranked teams, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons aim to secure one of Africa's two spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
