Aiyedatiwa Responds to Court Ruling on 2028 Election

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, spoke about a recent Federal High Court ruling that prevents him from participating in the 2028 governorship election. Aiyedatiwa, who was sworn in on December 27, 2023, following the death of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, stated that the ruling is an unnecessary distraction and expressed that it is not the right time to discuss future elections.

He emphasized that his priority remains delivering on the mandate given to him in the upcoming elections scheduled for November 16, 2024. During a live interview with Channel Television, Aiyedatiwa maintained that the court case was initiated by an individual seeking clarification on the interpretation of the law regarding eligibility and that he does not feel distracted by the legal developments.

His Chief Press Secretary, Ebenez Adeniyan, reiterated that it is premature to discuss the governorship race.
