FCT Considers Ban on Okada and Keke in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated that the FCT Administration is contemplating a ban on commercial motorcycles, known as Okada, and tricycles, referred to as Keke Napep, in certain areas of Abuja due to escalating security issues. This consideration arose from recommendations made by the FCT Security Council, which highlighted intelligence reports connecting these vehicles to criminal activities.

Wike made this announcement during his monthly media chat, broadcast live on Channels TV on a Tuesday. He mentioned that while a complete ban across the Federal Capital Territory would be challenging due to its size and transportation requirements, specific areas within the city could see restrictions.

Wike also revealed that he had authorized logistics support for enhanced security operations. Additionally, he addressed the persistent issue of beggars in Abuja, noting that efforts to remove them have only produced temporary results, as many return shortly after being evacuated.
