Ondo State Investigates Death of Woman After Quintuplets

Mari Yaduyan, a 45-year-old woman, died shortly after giving birth to quintuplets via caesarean section at a multispecialty hospital in Akure, Ondo State. The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, which medical experts attributed to pulmonary embolism, a complication that can occur during childbirth.

During a visit to the hospital, Seun Osamay, representing the governor, expressed the administration's grief over the incident and announced a ₦2 million donation to support the care of the newborns, who are currently receiving treatment. The government is considering longer-term plans, including the possibility of transferring the babies to a specialized facility once they are stable.

Adiji Ojoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Health, confirmed that a formal investigation is underway to determine the necessary actions following the findings. This incident has drawn renewed attention to maternal health challenges in Nigeria, particularly the risks associated with high-risk pregnancies.
