Ondo Residents Protest Insecurity with Corpse Blockade

On Tuesday, residents of Ilu Abo in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State protested against rising insecurity by blocking the Akure-Owo expressway with the corpse of a kidnapping victim. The protest caused significant traffic disruption as angry youths demanded government intervention to address the frequent kidnappings and violent attacks in their community.

They expressed fears for their safety, stating that they could no longer engage in daily activities or farming due to the threat of abduction. Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was urged to take decisive action.

In a related development, the Ondo State Police Command announced the arrest of Abdullahi Lawal, a suspected kidnap kingpin linked to the abduction of farmer Aremu Tijani on August 18, 2025. Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh reported that Lawal's gang was engaged in a gun battle with police, leading to the arrest of several suspects.

The police assured residents of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the area.
