FUTA to Host Dr. Akerele Ogunsiji on AI Lecture

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) will host Dr. Akerele Ogunsiji for its annual lecture on artificial intelligence on July 15, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium.

The lecture will gather academics, researchers, policymakers, students, and industry leaders to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and its role in the global economy. The theme will focus on how African universities can transition from being mere consumers of technology to producers of AI innovations.

Dr. Ogunsiji, founder of Rise Network and Rise Interactive Studio Africa, emphasizes the need for African institutions to take a leading role in AI development to enhance national competitiveness.

She has recently earned a PhD, focusing on the implications of AI for Nigeria's economy and security. The event is timely, as it seeks to stimulate discourse on higher education's future in AI and encourage collaboration between universities and industries.
