One-Storey Building Collapse in Anambra Due to Rainfall

A one-storey building housing eight shops in Ikenga Ogidi along the Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Expressway collapsed on Saturday night following persistent rainfall that began that day. The structure, built with substandard materials, was reported to have been leaning prior to its collapse, which resulted in significant property damage estimated in several million naira.

Eyewitnesses indicated that heavy erosion and blocked drainage contributed to the building's failure. Fortunately, no deaths were recorded, but the collapse has raised concerns about safety in the area.

Anambra State government officials visited the site on Monday to assess the situation and ensure that nearby structures do not pose further danger. Preliminary reports suggest that multiple damages may have occurred, prompting an investigation into whether regulatory procedures were ignored during construction.
