MACSAIL CIC's Adanikin Calls for Digital Literacy in Schools

Mr. Olugbenga Adanikin, the Founder of the UK-based Media Action for Child Safety and Information Literacy (MACSAIL CIC), has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to incorporate digital and information literacy into the education curriculum. This initiative aims to protect children and young people from online harm, misinformation, and cybercrime.

Adanikin stated that equipping children with skills to navigate the digital environment responsibly would enhance government efforts to regulate internet access. He emphasized the importance of introducing age-appropriate digital literacy from primary school to help children identify harmful online content.

Adanikin, who recently concluded the MACSAIL CIC 2026 Summer Digital Safety Training Workshop and Parent Roundtable Meeting in Derby, UK, noted that a multi-stakeholder approach is essential for meaningful digital safety. He commended the Nigerian government for its efforts to limit early exposure to the internet but stressed the need for actual policy action and creative integration of digital literacy into the curriculum.
