APC and LP Cleared for Kebbi Assembly Bye-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that only the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) are eligible to contest the Zuru Constituency bye-election in Kebbi State, set for June 20, 2026. This decision follows the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Usman Muhammad Zuru, on April 6, 2026.

INEC's Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abubakar Dambo, stated that both parties met the deadline to submit their candidates and conduct primary elections, which were required to be completed by May 22-26, 2026. Other political parties failed to meet the necessary requirements by the expiration of the deadline.

Dambo emphasized the importance of cooperation between political parties and the electoral body to ensure a peaceful electoral process in the Zuru Constituency.
