INEC Confirms APC and LP for Kebbi Assembly By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that only the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) are eligible to participate in the Kebbi State House of Assembly by-election set for June 20, 2026, in the Zuru Local Government Area. This announcement was made during a stakeholders' meeting on Wednesday, where Abubakar Sarkin Pawa Dambo, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kebbi State, outlined the timeline for the election.

Political parties must submit their candidate lists between May 22 and May 26, 2026. The APC and LP have successfully met the commission's requirements, allowing them to participate.

Campaigning will commence on June 10 and conclude on June 18, with voting taking place on June 20. The election will utilize the existing voter register, and 109,292 registered voters are expected to participate across 200 polling units in 10 wards, including six within the Zuru metropolis.

Additionally, 822 ad hoc staff will be trained to ensure a smooth electoral process, necessitated by the earlier death of Usman Muhammad Zuru, the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
