APC's Rabiu Garba Aiki Wins Kebbi State Assembly By-Election

The All Progressives Congress candidate won the Zuru State Constituency seat with 4,887 votes in Saturday's peaceful but sparsely attended election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the Kebbi State House of Assembly by-election in Zuru State Constituency on Saturday. He obtained 4,887 votes, surpassing Aliyu Galadima Muhammad from the Labour Party, whose tally reached 168 votes.

Among 109,385 registered voters across the constituency, participation totalled 5,156 ballots cast at 200 polling units within Zuru Local Government Area. The commission validated 5,055 votes while invalidating 95.

A vacant assembly seat prompted this by-election. Results from all 10 wards showed the APC commanding significant support throughout the constituency, as documented in collation records presented at the Federal University in Birnin Kebbi returning officer's office.

Party agents, observers monitoring the exercise, and media representatives submitted tallies at the commission's collation centre without incident. Throughout Saturday, the polling exercise proceeded without disturbance.

Visibly stationed security personnel maintained law and order at polling locations across the area. The commission reported zero major breaches of peace during voting.

Notably, however, voter engagement remained remarkably low, with observers documenting that daily routines continued uninterrupted among residents, and numerous centres witnessed sparse attendance when voting started early in the morning. Multiple polling sites across Zuru experienced this depressed participation rate, though certain officials anticipated higher numbers as hours advanced.

Both party representatives and electoral observers commended the peaceful atmosphere and security arrangements that characterised the exercise throughout the voting day.
