Onwuzurike Aims for Historic 200m Medal at Commonwealth

Onwuzurike is set to compete in the men's 200m final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, aiming to become the first Nigerian to win a medal in this event in 32 years. He qualified for the final with a time of 20.22 seconds.

The 23-year-old athlete entered the competition with a season's best of 20.18 seconds, achieved at the Gyulai István Memorial in Budapest earlier in the month. His personal best is 19.76 seconds, positioning him as a strong contender for a podium finish.

The final will feature notable competitors, including Jamaica's Christopher Taylor and Jevaughn Powell, Ghana's Paul Amoah, and others. Onwuzurike's goal is to improve upon his sixth-place finish at the 2022 Games, where Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards won gold.

The last Nigerian to win a medal in the men's 200m was Daniel Effiong, who secured bronze in 1994.
