Onyeka and Awoniyi Start EPL Season with Defeat

Frank Onyeka and Taiwo Awoniyi experienced a challenging start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night. Onyeka, who played a key role in helping Coventry secure promotion to the Premier League after 25 years, and Awoniyi, who joined the club just four days prior to the match, faced the reigning champions in their opening game.

The season features 10 Nigerian players, including Semi Ajayi, who returned to the Premier League with Hull City after making 33 appearances for West Bromwich Albion in the 2020/21 season. Ajayi's experience is expected to be vital for Hull's survival as they prepare to face Manchester United.
