Ooni of Ife Declared Supreme Leader of Yoruba Rulers

During the 2026 Osun Olojudo Festival in Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Oyetunde Ishola Jokotola declared that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, remains the undisputed leader of traditional rulers in Yorubaland. He refuted reports suggesting a division within the traditional institution, labeling them as false and sponsored narratives.

Oba Jokotola stated, “I don’t believe there is any crisis among traditional rulers,” asserting that all recognize the Ooni as their leader. He emphasized the historical, cultural, and traditional significance of the Ooni's role, stating he is the primary custodian of Yoruba culture and traditions.

Furthermore, he clarified that there is only one recognized council of Obas in Osun State, led by the Ooni, countering speculations about the existence of separate senatorial councils. This statement comes amid reactions to a newly formed traditional council by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, which some traditional rulers have rejected.
