OPay Issues Legal Warning Over False Viral Post

OPay Digital Services Limited has formally warned an X user named Cute Hafserh, with the username @haifah_er_abba, regarding a post that falsely claimed the company would go on a long, indefinite break and advised customers to withdraw their funds. The warning, dated August 31, 2026, and signed by Chief Legal Counsel Akinfolabi Moses Rokosu, states that OPay became aware of the misleading post on August 30, 2026.

The company characterized the post as "false, malicious, unlawful, libellous, defamatory and lacks any factual, legal or ethical basis whatsoever," asserting that it caused reputational and commercial damage. OPay set a deadline for Hafserh to comply with three conditions: delete the post from X and any other platforms, issue a clear and unconditional retraction, and provide an unreserved public apology to OPay, all by 11:59 PM West Africa Time on August 31, 2026.

The company warned that non-compliance would lead to legal action, emphasizing the seriousness of spreading false information about its brand.
