OPC Criticizes Tinubu, Makinde Over Abducted Students

The Oodua People's Congress (OPC), under the leadership of Gani Adams, has condemned President Bola Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for their inability to secure the release of 40 schoolchildren and a teacher who were abducted nearly a month ago. This statement was made during an interview at a town hall meeting organized by New Central in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Rauf Abiola, the OPC National Director of Communications, emphasized that the government has not done enough to protect the lives and properties of citizens, as mandated by Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution. The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, during a coordinated attack on several schools in the Oriire Local Government Area.

Abiola criticized the lack of coordination among local governments in Oyo State and highlighted the broader issues of insecurity and political failure that have led to the rise of kidnapping and banditry in Nigeria.
