Dr. Kayode Opeifa: Leading Nigeria's Rail Transport Reform

Dr. Kayode Opeifa, born on May 21, 1965, has been a significant figure in Nigeria's transport reform, particularly during his tenure as Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC). His career began with a strong academic foundation, earning a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin and later a postgraduate degree, which led him to become a lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU).

Opeifa gained recognition for his administrative skills and became a member of the university senate. His public service career was marked by his appointment as Special Adviser on Transport to former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in 2007, where he played a crucial role in addressing traffic congestion and improving transport management.

He was instrumental in reforming the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and enhancing public transport systems. His leadership style emphasized stakeholder engagement and direct communication with transport unions and civil society groups, contributing to significant advancements in urban mobility.
