Lagos Urges Businesses to Open Toilets to Combat Defecation

The Lagos State Government, represented by Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, has initiated a campaign encouraging filling stations and banks to provide restroom access to the public. This initiative is part of a broader effort to eliminate open defecation and improve public sanitation across Lagos State.

Currently, there are 1,710 functional public toilets strategically located to serve residents and visitors. The government acknowledges that it cannot tackle the challenge of open defecation alone and emphasizes the need for collaboration with businesses to enhance restroom access.

Wahab highlighted that public health and human dignity are at stake, and the government is committed to enforcing environmental sanitation laws alongside infrastructure development. Individuals caught engaging in open defecation will face arrest and prosecution under existing laws.

The statement underscores the shared responsibility of residents and businesses in maintaining a clean and safe environment in Lagos State.
