Valuers Urge Government to Enhance Land Access for Housing

Estate surveyors and valuers have called on the Federal Government to improve access to land and expand infrastructure development to tackle Nigeria's housing deficit, which is estimated to exceed 21 million units. This appeal was made during the Valuers Assembly held in Abuja by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria.

Bature Muhammad, President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, stated that making land more accessible would enable individuals to build their own homes. He suggested that the government could implement a site and services scheme to facilitate this.

Muhammad commended the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Housing Scheme for initiating the construction of housing units across various states, noting that this effort could significantly alleviate the housing crisis. He also pointed out that government policies, economic conditions, and inadequate data are major challenges in the housing sector, advocating for a consolidated national database to support planning and development.
