Developers Call for Collaboration to Address Housing Deficit

Stakeholders in Nigeria's real estate sector are urging for enhanced collaboration among private developers and increased investment to tackle the country's significant housing deficit, which the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development estimates at over 14.9 million units. This appeal was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for Amani Abuja, a 50-hectare residential project in Kabusa, Abuja, developed through a partnership of Kopitar, OMEC Properties, and Gynosure Realty Ltd.

Anderson Idoko, chairman of Kopitar, emphasized the necessity of private-sector involvement to meet the growing housing demand in the Federal Capital Territory, driven by migration, including the influx of approximately 35,000 political appointees every four years and returning Nigerians from the diaspora. Michael Ofiwe, managing director of OMEC Properties, noted that collaboration among real estate companies could expedite housing delivery and accommodate various investor categories, offering a range of housing options from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom duplexes.
