OpenAI to End Cursor Agreement After SpaceX Acquisition

OpenAI announced its intention to terminate its agreement with Cursor, a coding tool company recently acquired by SpaceX, citing compliance concerns regarding the use of its technology. The proposed shutoff date for the contract is November 12, 2026, allowing developers to retain access to OpenAI models through Cursor until then.

OpenAI's decision follows issues with compliance observed during Musk's acquisition of X, formerly Twitter, and Musk's admission under oath regarding xAI's violations of OpenAI's terms. OpenAI expressed respect for Cursor and its contributions to the developer community but emphasized the need for compliance with its policies.

Musk responded on X, labeling OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman as "untrustworthy" and accused them of stealing from an open-source nonprofit. The ongoing dispute between Musk and Altman has included legal action, with Musk previously seeking damages from OpenAI and Microsoft, which a federal jury ruled against.
