OpenAI to Launch New GPT-5 and GPT-6 AI Models

OpenAI is scheduled to unveil its new AI models, GPT-5 and GPT-6, on Thursday, following approval from the U.S. government for a broader launch. These models are designed to address concerns about cybersecurity, as they possess unprecedented capabilities to identify weak code that hackers could exploit.

OpenAI had previously shared a preview of GPT-5 and GPT-6 with a limited group of trusted partners at the request of Washington. The new models will include three tiers: Terra, a flagship model; Luna, a mid-range version for everyday work; and a fast, low-cost option.

The pricing for the Terra model will be half that of its predecessor, GPT-5. OpenAI aims to secure customers amid fierce competition from Anthropic and Google.

The approval for the launch follows technical tests that met government standards, and it aligns with the Trump administration's desire for fewer regulations on AI companies to enhance the U.S. position in the AI race against China.
