APC Defends Democracy Amid Opposition's Electoral Concerns

The All Progressives Congress (APC) addressed concerns regarding the potential failure of opposition parties, specifically the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to participate in future elections. APC spokesman Sey Oladejo released a statement on Tuesday, asserting that democracy in Nigeria will not falter even if certain opposition parties miss the ballot due to non-compliance with electoral regulations.

He emphasized that democracy functions within established legal frameworks rather than public sentiment and described any alarmist propaganda as disingenuous. Oladejo highlighted the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and reiterated that political parties must adhere to electoral requirements, noting that failure to do so incurs consequences.

He referenced the APC's own experience during the 2019 general elections, where legal challenges prevented participation in Zamfara and Rivers states. Oladejo accused the ADC of attempting to shift blame for its internal crises onto the APC, labeling it a self-inflicted wound resulting from disorganized procedures.
