Prestina Ochonogor Cleared for Commonwealth Games Long Jump

Prestina Ochonogor has been officially cleared to compete in the women’s long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after the organizers reversed an earlier decision that deemed her ineligible. This confirmation was provided by an official from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) on Tuesday, resolving uncertainty regarding the 19-year-old's participation.

Initially, a letter from the Games’ Technical Delegate, Chris Cohen, stated that Ochonogor could not be added to the final entry list due to her exclusion from Nigeria's original submission. Nigeria had aimed to include both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro following the withdrawal of multiple Commonwealth medallist Ese Brume, but this request was initially denied.

Ochonogor earned her place on Team Nigeria by winning the women’s long jump at the National Athletics Trials in June, achieving a leap of 6.57m at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos. The women’s long jump final is scheduled for Saturday, and Ochonogor's eligibility is seen as a significant boost for Team Nigeria's athletics contingent.
