Oyo Government Forms Inquiry into Oriire Abduction Case

The Oyo State Government has formed a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, which occurred on May 15, 2026. The announcement was made by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state Commissioner for Information.

The commission is set to be inaugurated today at the Executive Council Chamber in the Governor’s Office, Ibadan. The panel's purpose is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and provide recommendations.

Governor Seyi Makinde had previously promised an independent inquiry during a statewide broadcast following the release of the abducted individuals, which lasted 56 days. The establishment of this commission reflects the government's commitment to uncovering the facts of the incident and enhancing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
