Oyo State Forms Inquiry into Oriire Abduction Incident

The Oyo State government has formed a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, which occurred on May 15, 2026. A statement from the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced that the commission will be inaugurated on Friday at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan.

The panel's objective is to uncover the circumstances surrounding the abduction and provide appropriate recommendations. Governor Seyi Makinde had previously promised an independent inquiry during a statewide broadcast following the release of the abducted individuals, which lasted 56 days.

Oyelade emphasized that the establishment of this commission reflects the government's commitment to revealing the facts of the incident and enhancing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
