Oyo Assembly Supports Makinde's Call for UN Probe

The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, reaffirmed its support for Governor Seyi Makinde's call for an independent international investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of schoolchildren and a teacher in Oriire Local Government Area. The Assembly stated that such an investigation is necessary to establish the facts surrounding the mass abduction and to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture to prevent similar attacks on schools.

Adebo Ogundoyin, in a statement from the Assembly's office in Ibadan, congratulated the governor and the people of Oyo State for the successful rescue of the abducted victims. The Assembly emphasized that the call for an independent investigation is not meant to indict the federal government or criticize security agencies but aims to identify security gaps and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.

The House also commended the efforts of security agencies and called for improved welfare and logistics for personnel involved in rescue operations.
