Makinde Calls for Independent Review of Teacher Abduction

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged international human rights organizations to closely examine the facts surrounding the abduction of a teacher and students by gunmen. In a state-wide broadcast, he emphasized the necessity of vigilance among the people of Oyo in light of the threats posed by criminal elements.

The abduction occurred in May, and Makinde stated that the incident should not be treated as a mere tragedy but as a call to build stronger institutions. He called for an independent scrutiny beyond domestic institutions to establish the truth and ensure accountability for those responsible, regardless of their official influence or affiliations.

Makinde reiterated that the primary responsibility for national security rests with the federal government and its security agencies, but he also highlighted the importance of public confidence in the system. He stated that the resolution of this case warrants independent investigation due to its grave and unusual nature.
