Stakeholders in Oyo State Commit to Peaceful Coexistence

A high-level stakeholders’ meeting was held in Ojongbodu, Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, to address security challenges such as kidnapping, farmer-herder conflicts, and banditry. Participants included representatives from Fulani communities, security agencies, farmers’ groups, traditional institutions, and community leaders.

Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji, Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and convener of the meeting, stressed the need for collective responsibility in ensuring peace. He highlighted the negative stereotyping of the Fulani community due to the actions of a few criminals and called for unity in exposing wrongdoing regardless of community affiliation.

Alhaji Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the National President of MACBAN, represented by A.B. Danmasani, urged for dialogue to mitigate ethnic tensions.

Ambassador Muyideen Adeyemi, representing the Chairman of Oyo West Local Government, noted the cordial relationship between Yoruba residents and Fulani communities and emphasized the role of traditional rulers in future peace initiatives.
