Police Meeting in Imo Tackles Farmers-Herders Conflict

The Nigeria Police, Imo State Command, convened a significant security meeting with stakeholders from Ohaji/Egbema, Owerri West, and Oguta Local Government Areas to tackle the persistent farmers-herders conflicts and other violent crimes. ACP Emeka Ezeibe, representing the Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing and community partnerships.

Stakeholders raised concerns about the destruction of farmlands by herdsmen and incidents of kidnapping for ransom, which threaten livelihoods and food security. Participants acknowledged improvements in security and praised Governor Hope Uzodinma for establishing community-based local vigilante structures.

Resolutions included urging herders to avoid encroaching on cultivated lands, registering herders in affected communities, and enhancing collaboration with security agencies to combat kidnapping and farmer-herder disputes. A committee was formed to address security issues promptly.

Suleiman Ibrahim, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Uzodinma on Northern Affairs, reiterated the Hausa/Fulani community's commitment to peaceful coexistence and denounced criminal activities.
