Orile-Agege LCDA Allocates N12M for Waste Management Boost

The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has announced a N12 million initiative to boost waste collection services in the area. Chairman Idowu Abiodun disclosed this during a collaborative meeting with stakeholders from Waste Management Nigeria.

The council disbursed N2 million interest-free loans to six private sector operators to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery. The loans are to be repaid over a 12-month period, with a grace period of one month.

Abiodun emphasized that the initiative follows extensive consultations with community development committees and aims to address sanitation challenges in Orile-Agege. Measures have been introduced to enforce compliance, including sanctions against residents who fail to dispose of waste properly.

Additionally, the chairman noted the establishment of a monitoring mechanism to ensure that private sector operators meet their obligations. Olubenga Adebola, from Waste Management Nigeria, highlighted the need for a shift in public mindset regarding waste, while Otunba Oladejo pointed out that poor payment compliance among residents remains a significant challenge.
