Oshiomhole Advocates Shoot-on-Sight Policy for Criminals

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, expressed strong support for a shoot-on-sight policy for armed criminals, criticizing Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu for being apologetic about the issue. During an interview with TVC News, Oshiomhole insisted that security operatives should act decisively against criminals.

The Nigeria Police Force clarified that Disu did not issue a shoot-on-sight order but referred to Force Order 237, which outlines the legal use of firearms. Oshiomhole also commended the Department of State Services for appealing a court ruling that imposed life sentences instead of death penalties on certain offenders.

He identified insecurity as the primary challenge facing President Bola Tinubu's re-election efforts and urged the President to set firm deadlines for service chiefs to address this issue. Oshiomhole noted that the ongoing recruitment of 20,000 personnel into the armed forces and the establishment of new army divisions reflect the government's commitment to improving Nigeria's security situation.
