Super Eagles Face Injury Woes Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers

Nigeria's Super Eagles are facing significant injury challenges as they prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Victor Osimhen has been ruled out for approximately three weeks due to a muscle strain, as confirmed by Galatasaray.

Paul Onuachu, the 32-year-old striker for Trabzonspor, suffered a muscle injury during a match against Gençlerbirliği, where he scored twice before being substituted in the 44th minute. Onuachu's injury raises concerns about his availability for upcoming fixtures, especially since he was beginning to regain form after a 10-match goal drought.

Trabzonspor has not yet disclosed the extent of his injury or the expected recovery time. Coach Eric Chelle is already contending with an expanding injury list, including players like Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Sadiq Umar.

With Osimhen and Onuachu both unavailable, Chelle may need to rely on other attacking options such as Cyriel Dessers and Kelechi Iheanacho as Nigeria approaches the September international window.
