APC and Accord Parties Skip Osun Peace Meeting Ahead of Election

On August 15, 2026, Osun State will hold its governorship election, but the APC and Accord parties did not attend a peace meeting convened by the police and INEC on Wednesday in Osogbo. The meeting, hosted by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, aimed to foster dialogue among stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Gotan emphasized the need for compliance with electoral laws and warned against political violence, thuggery, and hate speech. Oluwatoyin Babalola, representing INEC, expressed concern over recent violence in the state and highlighted the importance of a transparent electoral process.

The absence of the APC and Accord parties was criticized by attendees, who argued it undermined the spirit of dialogue, especially in light of recent mutual accusations of violence in Irepodun and Ikirun. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain peace and security during the electoral campaign.
