Accord Party Accuses Osun Police of Selective Arrests

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the State Police Command of engaging in selective policing and targeting its members in the lead-up to the August 15 governorship election. This accusation follows the police's dismissal of claims made by the Imole Campaign Council regarding a list of political figures earmarked for arrest.

In a statement by Accord Chairman Pastor Victor Akande, the party rejected the police's explanations for recent raids and arrests, alleging that these operations were intended to intimidate Accord leaders and members rather than address criminal activities. The party claimed that individuals linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC), such as Kazeem Oyewale, had not faced similar scrutiny.

They also highlighted the case of Taofeeq Akinyemi, an Accord member who was arrested after surviving a shooting by Akinkunmi Alabi, questioning why Alabi had not been apprehended. The Osun State Police Command, represented by DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, refuted the allegations, asserting that their operations are not politically motivated and are focused on crime prevention.
