Osun 2026 Governorship Debate Cancelled Over Security Issues

The planned Osun 2026 Governorship Debate, scheduled for August 1 in Osogbo, was cancelled due to security concerns and the unwillingness of some leading candidates to participate. Organised by Uniq FM, Rave FM, Diamond FM, and Fresh FM, the cancellation was unanimously decided to ensure the safety of participants and the public.

The debate was intended to feature candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord, and African Action Congress (AAC), allowing them to present their manifestoes and respond to public inquiries before the August 15 governorship election. Following the announcement, residents expressed disappointment, with media executive Jare Tiamiyu criticizing the candidates for avoiding scrutiny.

Some residents defended the candidates, noting that Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, was preparing for a separate debate with Channels Television. The cancellation has raised concerns about candidates' willingness to engage with voters directly.
