INEC Clears 14 Parties for Osun 2026 Election, PDP Missing

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially cleared 14 political parties to participate in the Osun 2026 governorship election, with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) notably absent from the list. Musa Olurod, a spokesperson for INEC, confirmed that these parties successfully concluded their primaries and uploaded the names of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

The approved parties include Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), People's Movement (APM), Action People's Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), People's Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). According to Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, the commission will publish the names of candidates and their running mates, which will be available for public inspection at INEC state offices and local government area offices starting February 16.

Meanwhile, the PDP has endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election, emphasizing his performance in infrastructure development and healthcare.
